Allentown, PA : Head-on crash on Allentown's Hamilton Street ejects one driver on Tuesday, December, 5th 2017

Two vehicles collided headon and one person was ejected in the Tuesday night rain on west Hamilton Street in Allentown, police said.

The accident happened 7:47 p.m. in the 2500 block of Hamilton, just south of Muhlenberg College.A large sport utility vehicle and smaller SUV ended up with heavy front-end damage. The large SUV sat in the westbound lanes and the smaller vehicle sat next to a tree off the same side of the street.

“The smaller SUV was going east on Hamilton and apparently crossed over the center line and crashed headon into the larger SUV,” city police Capt. James Keiser said. “The driver was ejected from the larger vehicle.”

The smaller SUV had just come out of an eastbound curve to the right at Ott Street when the collision occurred.

Allentown EMS ambulances rushed to the scene and took the ejected driver to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The other SUV driver, also a man, had relatively minor injuries, Keiser said, adding that he was not sure whether either SUV had passengers. Investigators were still on the scene.

Two other cars sat farther west in the eastbound lanes of Hamilton after the crash. It wasn’t clear whether they also were involved or managed to avoid the accident.

A neighbor said he believed as many as five vehicles were involved. The speed limit on this section of Hamilton Street is 40 mph.
