Norfolk, VA : 3 crashes involving 7 cars and a bicyclist around Virginia Beach Town Center Monday afternoon on Monday, 3rd October 2016
Three car crashes around Town Center in a span of three hours have sent at least three people to the hospital.
Just before noon, a man was riding a bicycle east on Virginia Beach Boulevard and crossed Kellam Road during a red light, according to police. The driver of a Ford Escape, who had a green light, made a left turn onto Virginia Beach Boulevard from Kellam Road and hit the bicyclist.
The man riding the bike was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition, police said.
Charges are pending for the bicyclist.
Around 2:40 p.m., three cars were involved in a crash at the intersection of Columbus Street and Independence Boulevard. A car a woman was driving hit head-on the front of an SUV that was sitting at a red light. A truck nearby was damaged as well.
A man was seen on a stretcher before he was put in an ambulance, as was the woman who was driving the car.
Across the intersection, three other vehicles going south on Independence were involved in a rear-end collision.
It wasn't clear if the crashes were related.
The left two turn lanes at Columbus Street are blocked and traffic is slow on Independence Boulevard.
