KINGSTON TWP, PA : Driver in fatal crash headed to county court on Wednesday, March 29th 2017
The driver in a fatal Shavertown crash last year will head to county court on charges of vehicular homicide and other counts.
Police filed charges against Christopher Tirpak, 37, of Shavertown, on Wednesday.
Police said Tirpak was driving with a blood alcohol level of .158 at the time of an crash that killed 39-year-old passenger Janeen Seitz.
According to court documents, Tirpak waived a preliminary arraignment and a preliminary hearing on the charges. He will face one count of homicide by vehicle, two counts of driving under the influence, one count of exceeding the maximum speed limit and one count of disregarding a traffic lane in county court. A formal arraignment date was not noted in court documents.
In a search warrant filed last year, police said officers responded to the crash around 10:18 p.m. on Aug. 6 on Mount Olivet Road to find a Dodge Journey crossover SUV that had run off the road and struck a tree.
Responding officers saw multiple cans of Bud Light Lime beer inside the car at the scene, according to the warrant. Tirpak also exhibited bloodshot, glossy eyes and slurred speech at the scene, police said.
Tirpak later told police he and Seitze had been at T.C. Reilly’s on Carverton Road before the crash and had been drinking beer. Tirpak said they left T.C. Reilly’s and were headed to a friend’s home “out in Orange” when the crash occurred, according to the warrant.
