Milwaukee, WI : Two people killed in car struck slammed into a tree on Tuesday, February 9 2016
Alcohol and speed are suspected of contributing to a violent weekend crash on Milwaukee's northwest side that killed two men, the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office reported Tuesday.
Nicholas T. Ashford, 37, and Antoine R. Lewis, 37, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, reported shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday in the 7900 block of N. 91st St., according to the medical examiner's office and Milwaukee police.
According to a medical examiner's report:
Ashford had been drinking all night at a party at Gene's Supper Club in Milwaukee and was traveling north on 91st St. at about 75 mph when he lost control of the car he was driving after it crossed a set of railroad tracks.
The car struck a curb and slammed into a tree before catapulting into and wrapping around an adjacent tree.
Ashford's wife told investigators that she was in a car driven by a friend that was ahead of her husband's vehicle and traveling from 60 mph to 70 mph.
She said she thought the two men were attempting to catch up to the car she was in at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Also Tuesday, the medical examiner's office identified a woman killed in another weekend crash in Milwaukee as Maxie Thao, 26.
Thao, who was 12 weeks pregnant, was a passenger in an SUV driven by her husband when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree about midnight Friday at N. 60th St. and W. Calumet Road, according to a medical examiner's report.
After the crash, Thao, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, where she died Saturday morning, according to the report.
