Two teenagers were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening near Devils Lake.
Kyler Westad, 18, Maddock, N.D., and Alexis Krantz, 16, Devils Lake, were taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks after the crash, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. Monday on N.D. Highway 20 about 3.5 miles north of Devils Lake, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to the Highway Patrol.
Westad was driving a 1998 Ford F250 east on 52nd Street Northeast, approaching the intersection with Highway 20, when he failed to yield at the intersection, the Highway Patrol said.
The pickup was struck on the passenger side by a 2008 GMC Yukon operated by Paul McCarthy, 44, Devils Lake, according to the report. The Ford then entered the east ditch and rolled. After spinning around, the GMC came to rest in the northbound lane of Highway 20.
Westad and Krantz, a passenger in his vehicle, initially were taken by ambulance to CHI St. Alexius Health in Devils Lake before being transferred to Altru.
McCarthy, who was not was not injured, was charged with driving under the influence.
Westad was charged with failure to yield, according to the report.
McCarthy was wearing a seat belt, while the two occupants of the Ford pickup were not wearing safety restraints, the report said.
The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department, Devils Lake Rural Fire and Rescue, and Lake Region Ambulance.
