Washington, PA : Two drivers injured in Union crash on Wednesday, August 2, 2017
Monongahela police said two Union Township residents were injured Wednesday afternoon when their vehicles collided head-on in the 2500 block of Route 88 in Union.
Dawn Nemec, 52, and Jerome Zelinsky, 76, both of Finleyville, were extricated from their respective vehicles and flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh from a landing zone at Finleyville Airport.
Officer Kevin Harris said a witness reported seeing Nemec’s southbound car going off the road and hitting a guardrail about 1:32 p.m. Her vehicle then came back onto the road, crossed the center line and hit Zelinsky’s northbound pickup truck, the witness said.
Nemec reportedly received treatment for broken bones. Zelinsky suffered broken bones and internal injuries.
Route 88 was closed in both directions for about two hours, Harris said.
Harris said the investigation is ongoing, and no determination has been made as to whether charges will be filed.
Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Finleyville, Elrama and Elizabeth Township, as well as ambulance crews from Tri-Community and Jefferson Hills.
