DUBUQUE, IA : 19-year-old charged after Dubuque Co. chase ends with minor crash on Monday, 15th March 2021
A man is facing charges after the Sheriff's Office said he led a deputy on a chase and later crashed into the deputy's patrol car.
At about 12:48 Monday morning, a deputy tried to stop a van for going 73 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 61 and Digital Drive.
The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Kaylan D. Simmons, did not stop and continued traveling on Digital Drive, Highway 61 and Maquoketa Drive.
The pursuit reached speeds at or around the posted speed limit, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Simmons continued north on Highway 61 toward Jones Street, where Dubuque police officers deployed stop sticks.
As Simmons approached the sticks, he began to slow and briefly stopped in front of the sticks. He then backed up into the deputy's patrol car, causing cosmetic damage. The patrol car is still serviceable.
