An 11-year-old boy was fatally injured Monday night when he was struck by an SUV in Wauwatosa, authorities said.

Wauwatosa police said the boy was struck shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of W. North Ave. and taken to Children's Hospital in Wauwatosa, according to a report from Wauwatosa NOW.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and bystanders offered assistance, according to the website.

The Milwaukee County medical examiner's office was notified about 7:30 p.m. that the incident resulted in a fatality, according to an official at the office.
