Springfield, IL : Jacksonville woman injured in two-car crash on I-72 on Saturday, December, 16th 2017
A 63-year-old Jacksonville woman suffered minor injuries Saturday night after the car she was riding in was hit by another vehicle on Interstate 72 and overturned.
The crash happened in the westbound lanes of the interstate about a mile west of the New Berlin exit at 6:20 p.m.
Illinois State Police reported a car driven by Kristen L. Rittenberry, 23, of Jacksonville was attempting to pass another westbound car driven by Thomas A. Zeller, 64, of Jacksonville when Rittenberry’s car lost control and hit Zeller’s car. Both vehicles went off the left side of the road into the median. Zeller’s car overturned.
The passenger in Zeller’s car, Paula Zeller, 63, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Both drivers and two passengers in Rittenberry’s car — Jonathon A. Hall, 24, of Gerald, Missouri, and Afton C. Penter, 28, of Springfield — were not injured.
Rittenberry was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.
