San Mateo,CA : 2 killed in Hwy. 1 crash with dump truck IDd as San Mateo couple on June, Monday 26th 2017

A married couple killed last week when their minivan collided with a dump truck on Highway 1 at Pomponio State Beach has been identified as residents of San Mateo, officials said Monday.
Dennis Vernak, 83, and his 79-year-old wife, Helena, were leaving Pomponio State Beach Thursday about 4:11 p.m. when a dump truck hit their Toyota Sienna minivan as they pulled out of the parking lot, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Peterbilt dump truck slammed into the driver’s side of the couple’s minivan, according to CHP officials. The dump truck driver was not injured in the wreck, which closed the highway for several hours.
Helena Vernak was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband, who was driving, was airlifted to a hospital where he died, CHP reported.
