Opelika,AL: Auburn man dies after two crashes, one involving a Lee County Sheriff's Deputy on November, Thursday 9th 2017

A 27-year-old Auburn man was killed after being involved in two vehicle accidents early Thursday morning on Interstate-85.

Preston Anthony Massey was involved in a single-vehicle accident near the 66-mile marker in Opelika while driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Massey was the sole occupant of his vehicle.

The crashed vehicle remained in the roadway and was struck by a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol at approximately 1:57 a.m.

Authorities said it was not clear Thursday which crash, or if a combination of both, was responsible for Massey’s death. He was pronounced dead “a short time” after the accidents, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
