Sorrento,FL : Moped driver killed in crash with hit-and-run driver in Sorrento on July, Thursday 13th 2017

A man on a moped died Wednesday night when he was struck by a car and then run over by another car in Sorrento.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators said the moped, driven by Patrick Burns, 26, was traveling south on County Road 437 just after 9 p.m. when a white Kia Sol ran through a stop sign at Central Avenue and struck the moped while turning north on CR 437. Burns and his passenger, Alexander Swisher, 18, were throw into the road, and Burns was run over by a Toyota Prius going north on CR 437.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene. Swisher was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to the FHP accident report. Investigators on Thursday morning were trying to establish where the men live but said they believe both were in the process of moving from Indiana to Florida.
