A crash in a Stanton parking lot Sunday afternoon left a woman seriously injured after she was pinned between cars, police said.

The crash occurred at about 1:50 p.m. in the PetSmart parking lot in Center Point Plaza on Churchmans Road.The woman was trying to get into the backseat of a minivan when its driver, an elderly man, accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, Sgt. Richard Bratz of Delaware State Police said.

The minivan, which was in reverse, hit multiple parked cars, trapping the woman's leg in the process, police said. Bystanders applied a tourniquet to her serious injuries before she was taken by emergency responders to the hospital, Bratz said. She is expected to survive.

No other injuries were reported, Bratz said.
