Royal Oak, MI : Killed a motorcyclist on Woodward Avenue near 12 Mile Road on Wednesday, August 9, 2017
Royal Oak police are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist on Woodward Avenue near 12 Mile Road.
Police said a Center Line man, 56, died from injuries he suffered after he hit a van driven by a Royal Oak woman, 71, about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Royal Oak Police Lt. Keith Spencer said the woman was heading east on 12 Mile when she crossed the northbound lane of Woodward.
“The motorcyclist, who had the right of way, was northbound on Woodward and wearing a helmet,” Spencer said in a statement. “The Center Line man was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the van was not injured.”
Northbound Woodward Avenue was shut down while investigators from the Royal Oak Police Department and Oakland County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation.
Alcohol is not suspected to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Police refused to identify either of the drivers and said no charges have been filed at this point.
“We still have an open investigation and have to make a determination on potential charges,” Spencer said.
