WEST JEFFERSON, NC : US-221 brought to standstill following crash on Friday, September 15, 2017

Traffic on US-221 came to a standstill in West Jefferson Friday afternoon as first responders dealt with the aftermath of a multi-vehicle accident.
The crash occurred shortly before noon near the intersection of US-221 and NC-194 after a utility trailer broke free from a pickup truck, according to responders on the scene. At least two cars on the scene showed body damage, and first responders – including Ashe Medics, West Jefferson Fire Department and the Ashe County Rescue Squad – could be seen talking to and treating patients at the scene.
The West Jefferson Police Department and North Carolina Highway Patrol also responded to the scene. The Jefferson Post will update with full details as they become available.
