Desert Aire,WA : Man dies in crash with heavy truck on October, Monday 2nd 2017

A Mattawa man died in a car-truck crash near here Monday as he was fleeing the scene of a previous crash.

#According to the Washington State Patrol, Miguel Garcia Maximino, 31, died at the scene of the second crash just before midnight.

#That crash occurred at milepost 11 on state Highway 243. He was driving a black 1999 Toyota Camry. It was totaled, and it was towed away by Davis Towing of Schawana.

#The driver of the second vehicle in the fatal crash was Agustin C. Santana, 48, of Sunnyside. He was wearing a proper safety restraint and was uninjured.

#Santana was driving a 1997 International tractor and trailer. It was totaled, and it was removed by Davis towing.

#According to the Patrol, Maximino was northbound on 243. His car crossed the center line and struck Santana’s southbound truck head-on.

#The Camry rolled and came to rest on its top off the northbound shoulder.

#The truck came to rest in the northbound shoulder fully engulfed in flames.

#“It burned to the ground,” state trooper Moore said.

#Moore said “evidence on the ground” indicated the Maximino vehicle crossed the line.

#It was corroborated by the driver of the second vehicle in the first crash at the entrance to Desert Aire.

#It was a minor collision, but the man who died ran, and the victim in that crash chased him northward on the highway, Moore said.

#That’s how that driver became a witness to the fatality crash. The Patrol did not release that driver’s name because the first collision did not generate a press memo.
