MIDDLEBORO, MA : A rollover, fireball and smoke for miles in Middleboro crash on Tuesday, 1st November 2016
Middleboro, Massachusetts
A car turned into a fireball and a large truck rolled over as the result of a three-vehicle crash on Route 44 in Middleboro, leaving four people injured and stalling afternoon traffic on Tuesday.
A person in the sedan that became fully engulfed in flames suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries, said Middleboro Fire Chief Lance Benjamino. Three others suffered minor injuries, the fire chief said.
Two of the injured parties were brought to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, and the others were brought to Morton Hospital in Taunton, Benjamino said.
The crash took place just after 4 p.m., on Route 44 westbound by mile marker 27, in the direction of Middleboro coming from the Plymouth area.Middleboro police continue to investigate the crash and declined to comment when reached around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Middleboro firefighters put out the raging car fire by spraying it with foam, Benjamino said.
“When I arrived, the vehicle was fully involved,” Benjamino said. “The one commercial vehicle, a bucket truck with a trailer on it, was rolled over on its side.”
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was notified about the crash because of an oil spill and a gas leak at the scene, with concerns about the hazardous material getting into catch basins in the area, Benjamino said.
