ZANESVILLE, OH : An 80-year-old Gratiot resident was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Monday, June 5, 2017

An 80-year-old Gratiot resident was killed Monday evening during a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 40 in western Muskingum County.

Carolyn Hughes was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene of the accident near mile post 4 just before 5:30 p.m.

The driver of the other vehicle, Graham Vineyard, 29, Zanesville, was transported to Genesis Hospital in Zanesville for the treatment of unspecified injuries. The extent of the injuries suffered by Vineyard was not available as of press time today.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Zanesville post, a 2016 Kia Sorento driven by Vineyard and a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Hughes were traveling in opposite directions on U.S. 40 when one of the vehicles crossed the centerline causing them to collide.

The Kia overturned and came to rest on its top. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
