Grass Valley, CA : Highway Patrol officer injured in Highway 49 crash on Monday, May 2, 2016

A California Highway Patrol officer was injured after his patrol car was struck from behind Monday at an intersection south of Grass Valley.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated at a Grass Valley hospital and then arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of a controlled substance, the Highway Patrol reported.

Officer Reaves Douglas, 50, had just completed a roadside aid call and was starting on a green light north on Highway 49 at the La Barr Meadows Road intersection when the crash occurred, Officer Tim Sheehan said today.

Arrested in connection with the 2:30 p.m. crash was Harold Goodman III, 62, of Grass Valley.

The compact car Goodman was driving sustained front-end damage. The Highway Patrol car had rear bumper and taillight damage. The speeds of the two vehicles at impact was still under investigation, Sheehan said.

Douglas was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical center for minor to moderate injuries and discharged Monday night.

The collision location is in Nevada County, about 2 miles south of Grass Valley and 20 miles north of Auburn.
