PEORIA, IL : Victim of fatal ATV accident identified by coroner's office on Friday, 17th January, 2020
A 20-year-old Chillicothe man likely died instantly when the ATV he was on late Friday flipped over.
Brandon M. Buckley was pronounced dead at the scene, at 1:30 a.m. about 200 yards east of Centerville Road and about a half mile north of Truitt Road.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Buckley suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries, and likely died instantly. Toxicology is pending, he added.
Buckley was on a Polaris RZR all-terrain vehicle rolled over Friday as he and another man were traveling across a field.
The driver of the vehicle has been arrested for alleged aggravated driving under the influence, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Brian Asbell said Saturday morning that his deputies responded to the 19900 block of Centerville Road at about 11:40 p.m. Friday for the rollover. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which had been operating in inclement weather.
Michael R. Ladd, 28, also of Chillicothe, was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical center due to his injuries. A subsequent investigation, the sheriff said, indicated that alcohol played a role in the accident. Ladd was cited for aggravated DUI and reckless operation of the all-terrain vehicle, the sheriff said.
