QUITMAN, GA : Valdosta man dies from Brooks wreck on Thursday, 29th March 2018
A 65-year-old Valdosta man died Thursday from injuries suffered in a car wreck earlier in the week, according to the Georgia State Patrol Friday.
Thomas Eason, 65, of Valdosta was a passenger in a Ford Ranger involved in a Brooks County incident. He and driver Marjorie Petty, 82, of Quitman were trapped and extricated from the vehicle, according to the GSP report.
Eason was flown from the scene of the Tuesday, March 27, incident and flown by Life Flight to Tallahassee, Fla., Memorial Hospital with critical injuries, according to the GSP. He died from his injuries Thursday, March 29, according to the GSP.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Ranger was traveling south on Georgia 333, going around a curve near the intersection of North Webster Street, according to reports. O.B. Griffin, 94, of Barney was driving a brown Chevrolet Silverado, traveling north on North Webster Street approaching Georgia 333, according to the GSP.
"The Silverado failed to yield to the Ranger when attempting to turn left onto Georgia 333," according to the GSP. "The Ranger struck the Silverado in the front end ... Both vehicles then rotated clockwise with the Silverado coming to a final rest in the southbound lane of Georgia 333 facing south. The Ranger came to a final rest in the middle of Georgia 333 facing southwest."
Griffin sustained minor leg injuries. Petty was sent to South Georgia Medical Center then transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital; she was listed in critical condition Friday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident. Charges are pending the results of the investigation, according to the GSP.
