FOUNTAIN, CO : I-25 back open following massive crash involving semi hauling Teslas at south end of Colorado Springs on Monday, 4th March 2024
The interstate has reopened in both directions following a massive crash involving a semi-truck hauling Teslas and four other vehicles.
Law enforcement was first called to I-25 and South Academy at 7 Monday night for reports of a crash with people trapped. What they found was a mess on the roadway: an overturned semi and several vehicles and debris strewn across the roadway.
According to Colorado State Patrol, the semi was traveling on I-25 when the driver hit a barrier on the right side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected and ricocheted across the southbound lanes, hitting a barrier on the opposite side of the road. The semi then hit an oncoming Ford F-150, followed by a Silverado. The impact caused the semi to flip onto its side.
The trucker, along with the driver in the F-150, were uninjured, but both the teen driver and his passenger in the Silverado suffered serious injuries and were transported to the hospital.
