Selma,NC : Car crashes full speed into tractor-trailer on I-95 near Selma on January, Wednesday 10th 2018
Authorities said one person died early Wednesday morning in a crash on Interstate 95 in Johnston County that closed the highway's northbound lanes near Selma.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers said traffic had come to a stop in the northbound lanes due to overnight bridge work in the area. Around 4 a.m., a white car with Maryland plates did not slow down and crashed full speed into the back of a stopped tractor-trailer.
Troopers said a passenger in the vehicle, Dennis Allen Schroeder, 64, of Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, Moyean Schroeder, 62, of Maryland, was taken to WakeMed for treatment of serious injuries.
The tractor-trailer was hauling 55-gallon drums of hazardous materials, but the material did not spill.
Authorities said the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and no charges have been filed against him.
