Pasadena, TX : One dead, three injured after Waller car crash on Wednesday evening, March 29, 2017
A woman is dead and three other people, including a toddler, are injured after a three-car crash Wednesday evening in the city of Waller.
The collision happened around 8:30 p.m., when a woman driving a Toyota Sienna westbound on Waller-Tomball Road tried to pass two other cars. To do so on the two-lane road, she veered into the eastbound lane. Before she had time to pass the cars and get back in the westbound lane, she hit head-on a Cadillac traveling eastbound, said Sgt. S. Wolverton with the traffic enforcement division of the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
After the crash, the Cadillac spun into the westbound lane, where a Hyundai SUV traveling westbound slammed into it.
All three cars came to a stop in the 26300 block of Waller-Tomball Road, just east of Hager Road.
The driver of the Cadillac - an elderly woman - died at the scene, Wolverton said. The woman driving the Hyundai and her 2-year-old child who was in the car with her were both physically uninjured.
The driver of the Toyota Sienna was transported by ground to Memorial Hermann Hospital. She was driving her two children - a 1-year-old and a 14-year-old. Both were transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital with critical injuries. All three are expected to survive.
Deputies do not think alcohol was involved in the crash. However, they do suspect the woman driving the Sienna was under the influence of prescription medication, Wolverton said.
The woman said she had been taking a prescription medication that impairs people. People taking it are advised not drive, Wolverton said.
Deputies are getting a search warrant to have the woman's blood tested. If her results show that she had enough of the medication to impair her ability to drive a vehicle safely, then she will be facing charges of intoxication manslaughter, Wolverton said.
