Thomasville, NC : Motorcyclist killed after hitting bridge on Interstate 85 on Friday evening, June 10, 2016

A man riding a motorcycle was killed on Interstate 85 in Thomasville on Friday evening when he lost control and crashed into a bridge abutment.

According to Trooper S.M. Comer of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, at approximately 6:19 p.m. a white male driving a Suzuki motorcycle was traveling South on I-85 near mile marker 100 at a high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic when he veered to the right and lost control of the vehicle. He hit the bridge abutment on the I-85 overpass and died on the scene.

The name of the victim has not been released until the next of kin can be notified.

Another vehicle behind the victim struck some of the debris but was not injured. Two lanes of the interstate were closed for approximately an hour and a half, but all lanes were reopened by 8:30 p.m.

Agencies responding to the accident were the N.C. Highway Patrol, Davidson County EMS, Pilot Fire Department and Midway Fire Department.
