LAFAYETTE, LA : Biker dies from injuries suffered in crash at Twyckenham Boulevard and Ninth Street on Friday, 9th August 2019

Twenty-two-year-old Andre Leblanc died from the injuries he suffered in a crash when his motorcycle and a minivan collided at Twyckenham Boulevard and Ninth Street about 3 p.m. Friday.

The Honda minivan driven by Barbar Schrader, 83, was westbound on Twyckenham attempting to make a left turn onto Ninth Street and collided with Leblanc's eastbound Kawasaki, Lafayette police Sgt. Mike Brown said.

Leblanc was not wearing a helmet. Instead, his helmet was strapped to the bike.

Paramedics rushed Leblanc to Franciscan Health East, Brown said.

Late Friday night, Brown published a second news release announcing that Leblanc died.

The intersection was closed to traffic from all directions for hours to allow police to investigate the crash, and motorists who travel that area should find another route, police said.
