Detroit, MI : Five people Injured in crash involving DDOT bus on the city’s west side on Friday night, April 17, 2015

Multiple people were seriously injured in a crash involving a Detroit Department of Transportation bus on the city's west side, police said.

The crash happened Friday evening at Dexter Avenue and Joy Road.

A 24-year-old woman was traveling north in her silver Ford Taurus on Dexter Avenue when she sideswiped an orange Dodge Nitro driven by a 29-year-old woman, according to Detroit police.

The driver of the Ford continued north on Dexter at a high rate of speed after striking the Dodge.

Police said the Dodge then pursued the Ford, which then crashed into the rear of a DDOT coach bus. The Dodge then crashed into the rear of the Ford, which caught on fire.

Police arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.

The passenger of the Ford was listed in critical condition. Both female drivers of the vehicles were listed in temporary serious condition, police said.

Two passengers on the bus were taken to a hospital in temporary serious condition.

There was a total of 20 passengers on the bus, police said.
