Gary, IN : Sheriff's deputy injured in crash on Tuesday, March 28th 2017
The Lake County Sheriff's Department is investigating an officer-involved personal injury crash Tuesday in Hanover Township that sent one sheriff's department deputy to the hospital, according to a police spokesman.
The deputy was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point with minor injuries after he was involved in a crash with another vehicle at around 11:30 p.m. while on patrol on U.S. 41 near 125th Avenue in Hanover Township, said Mark Back, sheriff's department spokesman. The deputy was driving his county-issued 2009 Ford Crown Victoria when the crash occurred. The driver of the other vehicle involved, a 2007 Ford Fusion, was not injured, Back said. There were no other passengers in the Ford Fusion.
Back said the deputy was discharged from the hospital at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The Cedar Lake Police Department assisted with traffic control for the crash, said Cedar Lake Police Chief Jerry Smith.
"The sheriff's department handled the crash investigation since the other driver was not injured," Back said.
The crash report is not yet available, he said.
The driver of the Ford Fusion was cited for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, Back said.
