Springfield, OH : One person dead following a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Clark County on Thursday, March 10, 2016

One person is dead following a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Clark County, sparked by a wrong-way driver.

It happened just before 5:15 a.m. Thursday on I-70 near the State route 59 mile-marker. Investigators say three cars and a semi-trailer were involved in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol tells 2 NEWS that Christy Lakins, 36, of New Carlisle, was driving the wrong way along State route 41 when she collided with a semi-trailer. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into the highway’s median. The semi-trailer then continued traveling into the westbound lanes of I-70.

Neither driver or the passenger in the semi-trailer were injured. Lakins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another driver, traveling westbound on I-70, stopped in the left lane of the interstate, because of the accident, and was then struck by another car. Those drivers were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Both crashes are being investigated. OSP says the two crashes are separate incidents.

It is unclear why Lakins was driving the wrong way down the interstate. We are working to bring you more information as we get it.
