A Northwest Florida man escaped serious injury following a fiery crash on Interstate 10 in Santa Rosa County on Monday night.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, Jeremy Hardin, 34, of Pensacola, was traveling west on I-10 in a 2004 Ford Mustang at mile marker 32 when the incident occurred at 11:14 p.m.
Traveling in the outside lane, Hardin attempted to avoid a collision when a vehicle from the inside lane made a sudden lane change. During his attempt, Hardin accidentally put his vehicle into park, which caused him to lose control. The Mustang shot off the highway to the right, colliding with a tree and catching fire.
Hardin was able to escape the vehicle without sustaining serious injury. He was transported to West Florida Hospital in Pensacola where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
The FHP release noted alcohol was not related to the accident and charges are pending.
