Blair, NE : Two people were injured in a head-on collision on Thursday, June 1, 2017
Two people were injured in a head-on collision Thursday on state Highway 133 south of Blair.
Blair Fire and Rescue and Washington County sheriff's deputies responded to the accident at about 4:45 p.m. near County Road P28.
Sgt. Brian Beckman said southbound traffic had stopped for a large truck waiting to turn onto P28 when the accident occurred.
A silver 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was southbound. The driver, identified as Christian Villagrana-Garcia, 22, of Omaha tried to avoid hitting a silver Pontiac Grand Prix that was stopped in front of him. He locked up the brakes, striking the Pontiac, which was driven by Nicholas Prahinski, 24, of Omaha. He was uninjured.
The Jetta glanced off the rear bumper of the Grand Prix causing it to cross into the northbound lane, where it struck a red Chrysler 200 head on.
The driver of the Chrysler, identified as Benjamin Miller, 40, of Blair, had to be extricated from the vehicle. Villagrana-Garcia was walking outside of his vehicle though he had blood on his face and hands.
Miller was transported to Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. Villagrana-Garcia was taken to Memorial Community Hospital & Health System in Blair and later flown by medical helicopter to Nebraska Medicine. Both men complained of pain to the abdomen.
The crash shut down the highway. Northbound traffic was rerouted onto CR P28. Southbound traffic was rerouted on CR P26.
All three drivers were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Capt. Shawn Thallas said the Bennington fire chief was the first on scene and reported the crash.
