MEMPHIS, TN : Child hospitalized after being hit by car after church festival on Tuesday, November 1st 2016
A car hit a child who was leaving a church festival on Halloween night, according to Memphis Police Department.
The child was taken to Le Bonheur Chidlren's Hospital in critical condition after being hit on South Parkway near Bloomfield Baptist Church. Investigators said the person driving the car that hit the child stayed on scene.
"He was running across the street. She was coming too fast and she popped him," one witness said.
Neighborhood children were leaving the annual Fall Festival at Bloomfield Baptist Church when a woman driving a car hit one of the children leaving the Halloween party.
"We was coming across the street and that family was right behind us and we saw the lady speeding so me and my brother and sister ran across," Teanna McCornell said. "But the little boy was running, trying to speed across in front of his daddy."
That's when the child, dressed as a Ninja Turtle, was hit by the vehicle.
"She kept going until the bumper fell off and that's when she stopped," the witness said.
The front bumper was hanging off the car and the child's shoes were left in the street.
Reverend Ralph White said the Fall Fest is for the kids in the neighborhood.
"Everything went great. We were just talking about how no mishaps, everything was good," White said. "All of a sudden one of the young people crossing the street apparently got away from his parents."
Police have not released information about the woman driving the car and if she will be charged.
