Western Kansas, KS : 16-year-old killed, three people seriously injured in crash on I-70 in western Kansas on Thursday, 27th December 2018
A 16-year-old boy was killed and three others seriously injured after a two-vehicle, rear-end crash Thursday morning on Interstate 70 in western Kansas, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred about 10 a.m., and a short time later, a portion of I-70 was closed in western Kansas because of winter weather.
The crash occurred at I-70 mile marker 74.5 in the westbound lanes, about 10 miles east of Colby, according to a crash report on the patrol’s website. A trooper said the crash occurred near Oakley, located between Colby and WaKeeney.
Authorities said a 2018 GMC Yukon SUV was westbound in the right lane of I-70 and a 2018 Peterbilt semitrailer was traveling behind it. The semi rear-ended the Yukon, the patrol said.
After the collision, the semi came to rest on the right shoulder, partially in the right lane and facing west. The SUV came to rest on the right shoulder facing east with the driver’s side pinned against the guardrail.
