A Vermont woman suffered serious injuries Friday morning after she pulled out from a stop sign into the path of an oncoming vehicle in Charlotte County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The report says a 1991 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Janet P. Harvey, 81, of North Ferrisburgh, Vermont, was stopped at the stop sign on westbound Payne Street, at the intersection of U.S. 41, around 11:20 a.m. Harvey then pulled out into the path of a southbound 2005 Ford F350 pickup truck driven by Clifford J. Hall, 59, of North Port. The pickup pulled to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision, but Harvey's car struck the truck's left front side and went into a spin.
Hall's pickup also spun and left the roadway, where it overturned onto its right side.
Harvey was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Hall reported only minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
