Fresno, CA : Motorcyclist seriously injured in Caruthers-area crash on Saturday morning, May 14, 2016

A 19-year-old motorcyclist suffered major injuries Saturday morning when he hit a sign in the Caruthers area, the California Highway Patrol said.

The rider was northbound on Tahoe Street approaching Mountain View Avenue about 6:45 a.m. when he lost control of the Yamaha R1, drifted off the right side of the road and struck the base of a “stop ahead” warning sign with his foot. He then careened into a vineyard.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.
