The trooper is identified as Trooper Joshua Kim, 24, assigned to patrol duties at the JFK Highway Barrack. He has been a member of the Maryland State Police for 2.5 years.

The three others involved in the crash are identified as the driver, Jared Richards, 21, of Abingdon, Md., and his two passengers, Sara Walker, 19, of Edgewood, Md., and Joseph D. Parrish, 23, of Aberdeen, Md.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is conducting the investigation into this crash. The preliminary investigation indicates that shortly after 4:00 p.m. yesterday, Trooper Kim and another trooper were dispatched to a hit and run crash call in the 1200-block of Musket Court. The victim of a hit and run crash on I-95 had followed the suspect vehicle to this address and confronted the driver. An altercation was occurring between the two and troopers were called to respond.

Trooper Kim was authorized by the JFK Highway Barrack duty officer to respond to this call with lights and siren. He was operating a marked State Police patrol car and activated his emergency lights and siren as he headed southbound on Rt. 543. As Trooper Kim proceeded through the intersection at Rt. 543 and Rt. 7, his 2014 Chevrolet Caprice collided with a 2006 Mazda 3, driven by Jared Richards, that was eastbound on Rt. 7.

Trooper Kim and Joseph Parrish were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment. Trooper Kim was released from the hospital at about 9:00 p.m. Parrish continues to undergo treatment. Jared Richards and Sara Walker were taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where both were treated for injuries.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team investigation is continuing. Charges have not been filed at this time.
