Marion, NC : A head-on collision on Thursday, July 6, 2017

A head-on collision in front of Spencer’s Ace Hardware sent two to the hospital, authorities said Thursday.

At approximately 1:08 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Marion Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad, Emergency Management and the Marion Police Department responded to Spencer’s Ace Hardware on Rutherford Road following a reported head-on collision.

According to Arnold Talley from Carolina Interior, who owned the van involved in the incident, his brother Donald and co-worker Josh Aldridge were traveling northbound on Rutherford Road heading back from lunch when a red pickup truck moving southbound crossed over the line and into their direction, hitting the van head-on.

“Josh (Aldridge, the driver) couldn’t dodge anything because of this truck working on the powerlines,” said Talley, pointing to a utility truck working adjacent to the wreck.

Southbound traffic on Rutherford Road was backed up for approximately 45 minutes while emergency units worked on scene.

The two passengers in the red pickup were taken to Mission Hospital Trauma Center with serious injuries, according to Emergency Services Director William Kehler. Donald Talley and Aldridge were treated for injuries, but declined transportation.
