CRETE, NE : A crash near Crete on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

Lancaster County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a crash near Crete that left one person dead Wednesday.

Deputies, Crete Fire & Rescue and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene near SW 100th & Hwy 33 just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said the driver of an eastbound Chrysler minivan drove into the westbound traffic lane and collided head-on with a semi. The driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi driver was treated and released at the scene.

A portion of Hwy 33 was closed for the investigation but has since reopened.

Officials are not releasing the victim’s name until next of kin notification. Seatbelts were in use and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
