Martinsville, VA : Bassett woman dies in single-vehicle crash in Franklin County on Wednesday night, March 8, 2017

One person died in a single-vehicle crash in Franklin County on Wednesday night, state police said.

A 2002 Ford Explorer was westbound on Virginia 619, just east of Virginia 724 south of Rocky Mount, when it ran off the side of the roadway about 8:05 p.m., Sgt. Rick Garletts said. The SUV overcorrected, lost control and overturned several times in the roadway.

The driver, Deborah Dean Ferguson, 58, of Bassett, died at the scene. She was wearing her seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
