Warrenton, VA : A work-zone pickup truck collided on Tuesday, August 22, 2017
A work-zone pickup truck collided with a dump truck in the Interstate 395 HOV lanes early Tuesday, killing a Fredericksburg man.
The crash happened at 2:21 a.m., near Exit 10C in Arlington County.
The HOV lanes, which are being converted to Express Lanes, were closed for pavement repairs at the time, said state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.
A dump truck had just entered the work zone and was traveling south to deliver its load of paving material. Another work zone vehicle, a pickup truck, was traveling north in the closed southbound lanes and as it came through a bend in the highway collided head-on with the southbound dump truck, Geller said.
The driver of the pickup, Brian S. Kilburne, 55, of Fredericksburg, was taken to George Washington University Hospital, where he died later Monday morning.
His two passengers were also taken to George Washington University Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The dump truck driver was not injured.
The accident closed the HOV lanes for close to four hours and stalled traffic south into the 95 Express Lanes.
