Raynham, MA : Bridgewater State cheerleader killed after a rollover crash in Raynham Wednesday night, September 21, 2016
A Bridgewater State University cheerleader was killed after a rollover crash in Raynham Wednesday night.
Hayley Sanford, 19, of Seekonk, was ejected from a vehicle after a two-car crash on the northbound side of Interstate 495 near Route 138 just before 7 p.m., the Enterprise reported.
University officials confirmed that a Bridgewater State student was killed in the crash, but did not identify her by name. Sanford is the third Bridgewater State student to die since June.
Raynham Fire Chief James Januse said she was taken to Rhode Island Hospital by Medflight.
A Bridgewater Fire department ambulance took Sanford to the landing zone at the Raynham Dog Track, while a Raynham ambulance took the driver of the other vehicle to Morton Hospital in Taunton. The driver who went to Morton had non-life-threatening injuries, Januse said.
Sanford's father, Russ, is an Attleboro firefighter.
Sanford was the lone occupant of the vehicle, Januse said.
State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The East Bridgewater Vikings cheer squad tweeted support to the university's team in their time of tragedy.
"Our hearts go out to the BSU cheer team as they mourn the loss of teammate Hayley Sanford," the tweet read. "May angels lead you in."
Sanford, a sophomore at BSU, was a 2014 graduate of Seekonk High School.
