SALADO, TX : DPS identifies Temple teen killed in Salado accident on Wednesday, 24th August, 2016
The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the man who died Wednesday in a fatality accident as Juan Carlos Tovar-Enriquez, 16, of Temple.
Tovar-Enriquez was sitting in the back seat of the red Ford Expedition with eight people in it that rolled after the driver tried to avoid a head-on collision, DPS Trooper Dave Roberts said Thursday.
He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when the accident happened, Roberts said.
No information is available on the conditions of the other seven people injured in the accident. Two people were airlifted and five were taken by ambulance to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital.
The driver of a tan Nissan Pathfinder was driving on the wrong side of the road after ignoring a no passing zone, Roberts said. The driver of the Expedition tried to avoid the Pathfinder, lost control on the narrow, two-lane country road and rolled.
The Pathfinder’s driver wasn’t injured. His name has not been released.
It is unknown at this time if, when or what charges may be filed, Roberts said.
Roberts said it is the state law for all people inside a vehicle to be buckled up while the vehicle is being driven in Texas, and that includes back seat passengers.
