LIVERMORE, CA : Fatal I-580 crash on Tuesday, 22nd December, 2020
A 52-year-old Stockton woman was killed in a solo-vehicle crash Tuesday night in unincorporated Alameda County north of Livermore, authorities said.
She was identified by the coroner’s office as Julie Ownbey.
According to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the death, Ownbey was driving a 2006 Lexus ES 330 about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday southbound on North Livermore Avenue south of Hartman Road near Interstate 580.
The CHP said witnesses said the vehicle was traveling at high speed when it failed to negotiate a right hand curve in the road and crossed into the northbound lanes of North Livermore Avenue, exited the east side of the roadway and collided with a barbed wire fence.
After hitting the fence the Lexus began to overturn and cartwheeled into the field to the east of the roadway, the CHP said. As the vehicle overturned Ownbey, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and landed in the field.
The vehicle was located upside down about 50 feet from the roadway.
Ownbey was pronounced dead at the scene.
