MARIANNA, FL : Marianna woman charged after crash on Sunday, December 25th 2016
A Jackson County woman is facing multiple charges following an officer's report she attacked him on Christmas Day after crashing her car into a concrete barricade, according to Jackson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) arrest reports.
Sandra Powell, 53, was arrested Sunday in connection with a series of incidents. JCSO reported she wrecked her car Christmas Day into a concrete barricade along State 73 in Jackson County and afterward was taken to a hospital, where she allegedly attacked an officer as she was being released from treatment. Powell allegedly had been fleeing officers at the time of the crash, JCSO reported.
Powell, of Gable Ridge Drive in Marianna, was then charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving with damage, lewd and lascivious exhibition, battery on law enforcement, and resisting arrest with violence. JCSO neither released the name of the officer alleged to have been attacked by Powell nor the extent of his injuries.
Officers reported the concrete barricades were left over the holiday alongside State 73 as part of an ongoing construction project. JCSO received a call about pursuing a vehicle out of Calhoun County on Sunday, and while fleeing officers on the road, Powell crashed her car into one of the barricades and required medical attention afterward, JCSO reported.
The extent of Powell's injuries was unclear from JCSO's reports.
"Powell was transported to Jackson Hospital and later treated and released," officials wrote. "Upon release she battered the officer."
Officers reported Powell was "believed" to be intoxicated. However, they could not determine what substance she allegedly had ingested.
It was unclear what warranted the charge of lewd and lascivious exhibition. Powell is being held at the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance on the charges.
