Milwaukee, WI : 12-year-old girl in serious condition after struck by a car in Pewaukee on Tuesday morning, July 19, 2016

A 12-year-old Pewaukee girl is in serious condition after she was struck by a car while riding her bike Tuesday morning.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and the City of Pewaukee Fire Department responded to a report of a car and bicycle crash at Prospect Avenue and Apple Tree Lane in Pewaukee a little before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

According to a witness, the girl on the bicycle was traveling northbound on Apple Tree Lane approaching Prospect Avenue when she went through the stop sign and into the path of the car, a Honda Civic driven by a 34-year-old Pewaukee woman, that was eastbound on Prospect Avenue.

The girl was transported by Flight for Life to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

The crash remains under investigation.
