Tavares, FL : Motorcyclist en route to Bike Week killed in Tavares crash on Sunday, March 12, 2017

A motorcyclist on his way to Daytona Bike Week died Sunday after a car turned in front of him, police say.

The crash occurred just after 3:15 p.m. Sunday on State Road 19, near Flagship Avenue in front of the entrance to Royal Harbor. According to officer Doug Roberts, the motorcycle was traveling north on SR 19 as a Mercury Grand Marquis was coming in the opposite direction.

The car made a left turn toward Royal Harbor and into the path of the motorcycle.

Roberts said the biker later died at a hospital, and the car's driver was treated for cuts because the window shattered from the impact.

The man was traveling with at least one other motorcyclist. Roberts said a blood-alcohol test would be conducted on the driver of the Mercury.

Police had not released the names of those involved as of Tuesday afternoon.
