Phoenix, AZ : U.S. 60 now open after fiery dump truck crash on Friday, 16th September 2016
A fiery crash closed U.S. 60 eastbound at Loop 101 before 6 a.m. Friday after a westbound dump truck crossed the concrete center median and slammed into several vehicles.
Only minor injuries were reported.
Arizona Department of Transportation officials said the road reopened shortly before 10:30 a.m.
The dump truck crash resulted in fires, and Mesa Fire & Medical Department treated 11 patients after the crash. Two were sent to local trauma centers with minor injuries; nine others sustained minor or no injuries, authorities said.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said the dump truck was travelling west on U.S. 60 before it went through the center median, colliding with multiple vehicles heading east.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
Early Friday morning, long delays and lane restrictions affected westbound lanes of the freeway in Mesa as well.
A fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. 60 eastbound near Mill Avenue impacted Thursday evening's commute. The motorcyclist was killed after he laid down his motorcycle and was run over by another driver.
