Virgin, UT : 18-year-old Washington County man died after a head-on crash on State Road 9 near Virgin on Sunday night, June 5, 2016

An 18-year-old Washington County man died Sunday night after passing another vehicle on a blind curve and then rolling his car while trying to avoid a head-on collision, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

Kamen King Kanosh, 18, of LaVerkin, died at about 11 p.m. Sunday on State Road 9 near Virgin.

Kanosh was driving west in a Mustang convertible behind a co-worker, when he passed the other car on a blind curve in a no-passing zone, the UHP reported.

Kanosh then swerved to the right to avoid a head-on crash with an on-coming, eastbound vehicle. He then over-corrected back to the left and the vehicle overturned off the right shoulder of the roadway, the UHP said.

Kanosh was wearing a seatbelt, but suffered head trauma when the vehicle rolled because it was a convertible, the UHP said.

Speed contributed to the crash, the UHP said, noting that witnesses estimated the Mustang's speed at "90 plus."

The UHP said investigators also were looking into "possible impairment" as a factor.
