Quincy,CA : Single-car crash kills Oroville man, Magalia teenager on Sunday, November 13th 2016
A male driver from Oroville and a teenage passenger from Magalia died at the scene of a single-car crash around 7:30 a.m. Sunday near Quincy.
According to a California Highway Patrol release, the Oroville man, identified as 50-year-old James Peer, was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan east on Highway 70 near Barlow Road, a couple of miles north of Quincy, when he crossed into the other lane and went off the roadway. The pickup struck a tree, causing major damage to the vehicle.
Peer and one of his passengers, 17-year-old Charles Lorona of Magalia, were killed in the crash.
Two other passengers in the car, an 18-year-old man from Magalia and a 15-year-old girl from Paradise, suffered major injuries. The man was taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico, and the girl to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
The CHP report indicted a “sizable amount of marijuana” was reportedly located at the scene, and that alcohol and/or drugs could have been factors in the accident, which is still under investigation.
The CHP report indicated the weather was foggy.
