Montgomery , AL : 24- Years old Montgomery police officer dies after crash with 18-wheeler at the intersection of Narrow Lane Road on Saturday morning, April 4th 2015

A 24-year-old Montgomery police officer was killed in the line of duty Saturday morning when his patrol car collided with an 18-wheeler in south Montgomery.

The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Narrow Lane Road and East South Boulevard. Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley said Colley was responding to a call at the time of the crash. He was transported to Baptist Medical Center South where he died a short time later.

Video and photos from the scene show that the 18-wheeler collided with the driver's side of Colley's patrol car. Officials haven't said exactly how the accident happened. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has taken over the investigation.

Colley had been a part of the Montgomery police force for two years. He leaves behind a wife and a 1-year-old daughter.

Chief Finley said the police department and family needs support and prayers during this difficult time. Montgomery's Department of Public Safety quickly mobilized a support system for Colley's fellow officers and family.

Administrators say it's a priority to help police officers deal with this grief in the most healthy way possible as they continue to protect the city and comfort the family.

Officers have been assigned to the family to ensure all their needs are met and so they don't have to grieve alone.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange was out of town Saturday but released the following statement:
